The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has called upon all Sri Lankans staying in Korea illegally to return home immediately by making use of the general amnesty granted by the Korean Government for all illegal immigrants to return to their mother countries without being penalised. SLBFE Chairman Karunasena Hettiarachchi said Sri Lanka too has been notified about this general amnesty by the Director General of the Korean Bureau of Immigration and Immigration. He said Labour Relations and Foreign Employment Minister Athauda Seneviratne has signed an agreement with his Korean counterpart for the provision of Sri Lankan Labour to Korea during his recent visit to Korea on June 1. The agreement is being implemented smoothly ensuring job prospects to about 5,000 Sri Lankans in Korea annually. This agreement too would be endangered if any Sri Lankans continued to remain in Korea illegally. He said all Sri Lankan illegal immigrants returning from Korea during the amnesty period could apply for Korean jobs under the Korea-Sri Lanka Employment agreement through the SLBFE. Their names could be registered with the Korean Ministry of Labour under the terms of the Korea Sri Lanka Labour Agreement if they send their applications to the SLBFE within the next two weeks. |
