Certain media reports have appeared regarding the court ruling given by a Tokyo District Court dismissing claims for diplomatic immunity by a locally recruited employee of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Japan, in a court hearing concerning a traffic incident. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan has not claimed diplomatic immunity on behalf of the defendant. The Embassy has explained to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs when the incident was reported in December 2002, that the incident is a private matter and there will be no direct or indirect intervention by the Embassy on the matter, the Foreign Ministry said in a news release. |
