Appeals by unemployed graduates being sorted out

The appeals sent by the unemployed graduates whose names were not included in the two lists published by the Finance Ministry are now been sorted out, a spokesman for the Finance Ministry Management Department said.

Sources told the Daily News that the Committee set up to go through the appeals sent by the graduates whose names were not included in the previously published lists calling for the training program is now sorting out to find out what had really happened in their cases.

"If the appealing graduates have the necessary qualifications and they are not employed, they will be recruited". The sources added saying that the Committee had received more than 8,000 appeals and still continues to receive appeals by mail.

"But we are not going to entertain those appeals sent after the final day as announced earlier. The final day was September 22. We now sort out what we have received by that date. If these appeals warrant calling them for interviews and training, we assure them that it will be done".

In a live program telecast over ITN recently, Secretary to the Finance Ministry P.B.Jayasundara said that with the experience the Ministry had when the PA was in power where 9,000 odd graduates were recruited for government employment they had found that recruiting new hands after an orientation program would be beneficial to both parties.

"They are going to be the future implementers of government programs and it is good for them to undergo some sort of training", he added.

Sources expressed confidence that the money necessary for training and recruiting the unemployed graduates for permanent employment in the state sector would be allocated at this year's budget proposals.
