by Sarath Malalasekera National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) officers are on the hunt for two grandfathers who are alleged to have sexually abused their 13 year-old granddaughter. This was revealed before Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena when the NCPA officers produced the victim before court. The officers, Sergeant Daya and PC Janaki told the Judge that the victim's mother, employed in the Middle East, had left the child in the care of the two Seeyas (one her own father and the other that of her husband's) at their home in Pannipitiya. According to the statement obtained from the victim, the two had abused the child sexually for several days. On an application by Sergeant Daya, the Judge directed the victim be produced before the Judicial Medical Officer for a comprehensive report on her condition. The Judge ordered NCPA officers to arrest the two suspects and produce them before court. |
