Jayasena has requested all District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries of flood affected areas to submit reports soon on the damage to property and human lives from floods to release funds. Minister Jayasena said that the Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Ministry is ready to provide flood relief. The Ministry has adequate funds to provide relief for flood victims. It is ready to provide boats, tents, drinking water, dry rations and any other relief. National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) Director N.D. Hettiarachchi said that he met District Secretaries of Kalutara, Ratnapura and Galle, who reported minor floods in those districts. No substantial damage has been reported yet. There are some floods in the Palindanuwara area while some areas in Ratnapura had experienced small-scale earthslips. There were minor floods in a few areas but flood victims have not reported the damage to the relevant Divisional Secretaries yet. A few houses in some districts have been slightly damaged in the floods while one person who tried to take a closer look at the floods drowned. It was reported that in some drought hit areas drought relief has been obtained by undeserving persons in an improper manner. |
