The 45th death anniversary commemoration of former Prime Minister and SLFP founder S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike will be held tomorrow morning at the Samadhi, Horagolla. Religious dignitaries, members of the Bandaranaike family, the Prime Minister, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, MPs, provincial councillors, pradeshiya sabha members, ambassadors and a large number of invitees are expected to participate in the ceremony. Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike ushered a new era of social revolution in 1956 with his coming into power. His Government opened the doors to the ordinary masses comprising the Pancha Maha Balavegaya (The Maha Sangha, physicians, teachers, farmers and workers). He took many far-reaching decisions for the country's benefit. He was shot by an assassin on September 25, 1959 at his Rosmead Place residence. He died the next day, plunging the entire nation into mourning. Tomorrow, the country remembers this great son of the soil with gratitude. |
