Champagne down the hatch Champagne is meant to be sipped, not poured into women's garments. Yet this is exactly what a newspaper magnate's son did some months back at a five star hotel. This led to a free-for-all at the hotel, what with the woman's companion, a well-known bus broker, pummelling the youngster himself and later bringing in his 'associates' to the scene. Now the young man is said to be more or less in charge of his family's assumed newspaper business and entrusted with the responsibility of causing the downfall of the Government through a sustained media campaign. The 'planting' of palpable lies to discredit the Government is his specialty. Apparently, the opposing powers that be have questioned the need for a 'family paper' if it cannot support their moves. Muddy champagne! His uncle, an honourable man would surely have died of shame at the antics of his dishonourable nephew. Cremation of Dharmasiri Gamage today Cremation of former Lake House journalist Dharmasiri Gamage will take place today, September 22, at the Borella Kanatta at 4.30 p.m. The body will be taken to the General Cemetery after religious ceremonies at his residence at Maligawatta National Housing Scheme, Colombo 10. Dharmasiri (65), a former Lake House mediaman, a veteran journalist, poet, lyric writer, author and film director died on Sunday, after a brief illness, at the Dambulla Hospital. |
