Eight teams for South Asian Soccer Sevens Eight teams from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Nepal will take part in the South Asian International Seven-A-side soccer tournament which will be worked off at CR and FC grounds, Longden Place from September 24 to 26, 2004. The tournament is being conducted by the newly formed seven-a-side Football Federation of Sri Lanka which is not affiliated to FIFA. On the first two days the eight teams will be divided into two groups and will play on a league basis with the winner and runner up advancing to the Semi-finals. The semi-finals and finals will be conducted on September 26 from 4 p.m. onwards. The matches will be of 60 minutes duration and will be played according to the rules and regulations of the World Seven-A-Side Football Federation and Asian seven-a-side football federation. The rules are similar to normal football except for the off side rule which is ignored. The tournament is being organised to promote seven-a-side football in South Asia. The champion team will receive the championship trophy, medals and certificates. The tournament co-ordinator is Marcus Toterra from Hamburg Germany a football player of repute. The seven-a-side football federation of Sri Lanka was formed recently at which Dietmar Doering was elected Chairman and Susil Ramanayake as Secretary. |
