Minister revokes decision to cancel AASL registration

Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Jeewan Kumaratunga has decided to revoke his decision to cancel the registration of the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AASL).

Minister Kumaratunga said yesterday that the AASL would be re-established within the next few days once the Ministry sent the gazette notification on the lifting of the AASL registration cancellation made on August 3.

Kumaratunga said he has nothing personal against the AASL officials and only wanted to the put the sport on the right track as several clubs and member association pointed out several malpractices of the local track and field governing body.

The Minister added that he would not promote any individual to take office and it is left for the member clubs and associations to do so. Meanwhile, the previous AASL officials have indicated that they would go for a fresh election of office bearers before the end of next month.
