by Nadira Gunatilleke The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) commenced the Drought Relief Community Welfare Service yesterday to support the victims of long lasting drought in several areas in the country under the direction of ANCL Chairman Janadasa Peiris. The donations were loaded onto lorries in the presence of ANCL Chairman Janadasa Peiris, ANCL Directors and several artistes. The lorries departed to the affected areas yesterday morning. The ANCL Chairman thanked all donors for their contribution towards this ANCL Community Welfare Service. Ceylon Biscuits Limited, National Savings Bank (NSB) and Lions Club 306 A, artistes and the general public also joined hands with the ANCL to implement the drought relief program. The ANCL selected specific drought affected villages located in Anuradhapura, Puttalam and Mannar districts to provide drought relief. The ANCL selected those ares because most other organisations did not reach these areas. The relief materials will be provided to selected Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Anuradhapura district including Aluthwewa, Nachchiyaduwa, Shrawasthipura, Shrawasthiwatta, and Kaluarachchiyagama today. Representatives from Ceylon Biscuits Limited and the National Savings Bank (NSB) also spoke. Director Editorial, ANCL, Karunaratne Paranawithana, Director, ANCL, Ms.Neeta Rathanapala, Assistant General Manager, ANCL, D.M.P.A. Dassanayake, actress Nita Fernando, actor Rajitha Hiran Chamikara and several others were present. |
