'CSR for reshaping business' The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is organising its fifth Annual Business Convention on "CSR for reshaping business" along with the "Best Corporate Citizen Award" - two major events to promote and raise awareness of the importance of CSR in the business community and the public. The convention will be held from October 14 to 16 at the Hotel Colombo Plaza, a media release from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said. The main objectives of the convention will be to raise awareness of the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the business community and to promote and encourage CSR practices among the corporate sector. CSR is simply social responsibility that every corporate member of a community and society should practise. The approach adopted also makes CSR synonymous with sustainable development at the corporate level. The Chamber has invited eminent local and foreign speakers to deliver addresses on the CSR theme. The keynote address will be given Jamshed Daboo, CEO Tata Group Leisure Sector on "Tata Group, a leading Indian business conglomerates contribution to transformation of society through CSR". The seven technical sessions on October 15 and 16 will refer to a company's impact on the society and the need to deal responsibly with the different stakeholders such as shareholders, customers, suppliers, employees and the community. This would broadly cover the environmental, social and economic sectors. |
