Mini hydro power project to be set up at Kudaoya by Nanda Ekanayake, Kurunegala Central group correspondent The Industrial Services Bureau (ISB) of the North Western Province in collaboration with the DSI Group of Companies will set up a mini hydro power project at Kudaoya in the Aranayake Divisional Secretariat in the Kegalle district. The ISB made every effort to enter the mini hydro power generation field during the past few years and this has become a reality in collaboration with the DSI Group. The site for the construction of the mini hydro project was identified with the approval from the relevant authorities and it was able to start the project with the cooperation and blessings of villagers in the area. It is planned to generate power from a stream namely Kudaoya, falling in to Maoya in Aranayake DS Division. The site is on a picturesque and historical village Selawa, about 5 km away from Aranayake town. The total catchment area of the power project is 14.8 km2 and the expected power output - 2 mw. The foundation stone-laying ceremony was held under the patronage of Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Lalith Dissanayake, Aranayake Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman E. Wijesinghe, Dr. D. Sam Rajapaksha, Chairman of DSI Group, Gamini Senanayke Director ISB, Directors of DSI Group and villagers of Selawa. Construction work will be completed within one year. The ISB will undertake the construction management of the project from the beginning and act as the technical provider. The DSI Group owns the project. |
