BoC help for drought affected The Bank of Ceylon has come forward in a big way to assist people in the Rajarata affected by the drought. A large consignment of dry food rations, water tanks and other goods donated by the Bank's staff attached to the Western Province North region under a program initiated by Assistant General Manager N. C. B. Ekanayake will be distributed among 211 affected families in the Sandamal Eliya village in Tantirimale at a ceremony to be held in the village on September 18. Regional Manager, Western Province Mr. Dharmawickrema assisted by his staff has organised the distribution ceremony, a spokesman for the Bank's regional office said. Islamic month of Sha'Ban 1425 The Colombo Grand Mosque said yesterday the Islamic Month of Sha'ban Hijri 1425 commenced from September 16 evening. Nazushan Hassen, General Secretary, Colombo Grand Mosque stated in a press release that no reliable evidence of sighting the new moon in any part of Sri Lanka was received on September 15 evening and it was decided to complete the month of Rajab 1425 as 30 days. It was also decided that the Night of Bara'th will be observed on September 30 evening. Ulemas, theologians, representatives of the All Ceylon Jemmiyathul Ulema, Sharia Council, Katheebs and Trustees of Jumma Mosques, Trustees of Thakiyas, Zaviyas, representatives of the Anjum Faiz E Raza (memon Community) officials of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs participated at the conference held under the auspices of the Colombo Grand Mosque at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall on September 15 after Maghrib prayers. |
