Power generation:

Clean and energy-efficient technologies

The demand for electricity is expected to increase at a rate of about 8-9% annually as a result of the demand growth among the existing consumers as well as due to addition of new consumers along with the economic development of the country. The expansion of large hydroelectric system during the next twenty years is expected to be limited to Upper Kotmale hydropower project with a capacity of 150MW.
