by Ranil Wijayapala President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in her capacity as the Minister of Education has taken steps to provide Rs.562.2 million for the improvement of facilities at Ruhuna and Peradeniya universities. Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Mangala Samaraweera said yesterday that Rs.280 million has been allocated for the second phase of the construction of a building complex at the Medical faculty of the Peradeniya University. The Minister also said that Rs.170 million has been allocated for the construction of a building for the Fisheries Biology Department of the Ruhuna University and Rs.37.2 million has been allocated to expand the hostel facilities at its Agriculture Faculty. In addition Rs.75 million has already been allocated to construct a building for the Computer Science Department and the Computer Unit of the same university. "Amid several challenges the Government is determined to allocate funds not only for education but also for other development activities," Minister Samaraweera added. |
