Bull run on hotel shares The Colombo Bourse experienced a bull run on Hotel sector stocks yesterday too. Reefcomer, Connaisance and Eden Hotel, were some of the heavily traded stocks. The shift in the investor focus follows the positive news that the hotels and overall tourism in the country have performed very well and is set to experience a further surge in the coming months. The All Share Price Index jumped to 2,130.60 points from 1,432.63 points on Wednesday. The Milanka Price Index was up at 1,438.29 points from 2,129.07 points. The turnover for the day was Rs.284,942,922. The Market also experienced profit taking yesterday with buying on selective counters. Stock Brokers said that hotel sector shares would be in demand today too and the market is set to go for positive rounds due to the prevailing stable political climate. ######### CDA to participate in Polagra Food 2004 Trade Fair The Coconut Development Authority (CDA) will participate in the Polagra Food 2004 International Trade Fair from September 23 to 25 at Poznan in Poland for the first time. The three-member delegation headed by the Chairman CDA Percy Wadugedara will promote mainly kernel products such as coconut milk, milk powder, coconut oil, copra and coconut cream at the food fair. Meanwhile, the value of total exports of all coconut products up to June 2004 was Rs. 9,241.97 million compared to Rs. 6,821 million during the corresponding period last year indicating an increase of Rs. 2,420 million according to CUSDEC Forms. |
