To resolve hardships faced by drought victims: People's Bank provides Rs. 2.25 m grant to build 200 wells in NWP Reinforcing its position as a bank that's committed towards nation-building, the People's Bank will again support the government's development initiatives with the provision of a Rs. 2.25 million grant to construct 200 drinking water wells in the precincts of tanks in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka, a spokesman for the bank said. The Game Wawe Linda project which comes under the Human Disaster Management Council of the President's office has been initiated by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to resolve the hardships faced by the drought victims of the North Western Province. The project which is scheduled for completion in mid October this year will be a source of relief for the residents of this region who have undergone major difficulties due to the prevailing drought conditions in the country. These 200 wells will supply adequate drinking water for the people in the North Western Province while also maintaining three months of reserve supplies in the event of a drought. The People's Bank is always mindful of the hardships faced by the masses and has continuously contributed towards the uplift of society. The bank has actively supported and participated in several national projects that have been beneficial to the Sri Lankan masses. Game Wewe Linda is yet another of the bank's social responsibility projects which the bank has undertaken in the recent past, the spokesman said. |
