Former MP further remanded by Sarath Malalasekera Former Colombo district UNP MP Lilantha Perera and three others remanded in connection with the alleged possession and sale of galvanised sheets valued over Rs.2 million imported from India to be distributed free to 128,000 poor families, were yesterday further remanded by Colombo Additional Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya till September 23. The other three suspects are S. Pillai Shanmugam, Mohamed Hussain Faroos Jaufer and R. Gnanasekera. The other suspect Karuppiah Sivakumar was earlier released on bail. Earlier the Magistrate allowed an application by SI R.M.V. Rajapaksa of the CCD to send the productions to the Athurugiriya Steel Factory to obtain a report. Investigations are directed by CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda assisted by ASP Palitha Fernando, Inspector Nuwan Wedasinghe, OIC, CCD, SI Rajapaksa and a team of CCD officers. |
