A program drawn up by the Education Ministry to provide education to rehabilitated underprivileged children was launched at a ceremony held under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at President’s House on Wednesday to coincide with International Literacy Day. President discusses consultative process with Opposition Leader

The President's Office yesterday announced that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in keeping to her true democratic traditions which she has pledged to the country, has met Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for an informal discussion on matters of national interest.

Japan to finalise US $ 263.9 m loan for Lanka

The Japanese Government will finalise their 36th yen loan to Sri Lanka to the value of US $ 263.9 million. According to Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, on an official visit to Japan, the formalities of the loan have already been approved.
