Bishop lauds President for providing funds to repair war ravaged Catholic Churches

Bishop of Mannar, Mgr. Rayappu Joseph has praised President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga for providing funds to restore five Catholic churches in Mannar and Jaffna.

The Government has earmarked almost Rs. five million for the restoration of five churches damaged during the 20-year civil war. Three parishes in the Jaffna diocese and two in Mannar will benefit from these funds.

This follows the Catholic Bishop's formally writing to Minister of Christian Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Milroy Fernando asking for financial assistance for restoring the damaged churches in the North.
