CEAT invests Rs 45 m on Dual Extruder technology

CEAT, the pneumatic tyre manufacturing giant which has a strong presence in Sri Lanka with a market share of over 50 per cent, in the Truck and Light Truck segments, has invested Rs.45 million in a new Technology Advancement Initiative.

This technology in the form of a Dual Extruder, will enable CEAT Sri Lanka to manufacture high quality truck tyres catering to the increasing Domestic and Export demand.

The Dual Extruder was inaugurated by CEAT Sri Lanka Chairman, Chanaka de Silva at the CEAT-Kelani plant this week.

CEAT's Managing Director/CEO Oscar Braganza said "Previously, the tread of our truck tyres were manufactured with a single compound.

The Dual Extruder facility will enable us to produce a dual compound tread, which will further strengthen the established position of CEAT truck tyres as one of the toughest and most reliable products on the road."

Braganza said the new technology used by CEAT is the result of CEAT's strong customer focus which constantly seeks to understand the current and anticipated requirements of customers in different market segments.

Earlier this year, CEAT invested Rs. 45 million in a capacity expansion project involving the installation of two presses for curing of heavy duty truck tyres at its Kalutara plant. Two more light truck presses were also put in to production, one at Kalutara and the other at Kelaniya.

CEAT manufactures and markets an extensive range of tyres for commercial and industrial vehicles such as trucks, buses, light trucks, forklifts and heavy vehicles such as payloaders and graders. The company has also become a leading player in the Three Wheeler or Trishaw segment.

The company currently exports a wide range of tyres to countries in the SAARC region, Dubai, Singapore, Philippines and Africa.

CEAT recently revamped its "Testing and Development Centre" to support the company's new product development and enhancement initiatives.

The revamp has enabled the company to carry out a majority of tests in-house and share data electronically. The tyre manufacturing units and the entire company have received ISO 9001:2000 certification for its Quality Systems.
