Lanka to host Asian Women's Junior Volleyball championships by Bernard Perera Sri Lanka will hold the 12th Asian Women's Junior Volleyball championship from September 19 to 26 at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. Already nine countries have confirmed their participation, these details were disclosed at a press briefing held at Volleyball Federation, at Reid Avenue with its president Mervyn J. Cooray presiding. This happens to be the first occasion that Sri Lanka is holding an international championship during its 88 year old Volleyball history. Sri Lanka won this bid last year when attending the Asian Volleyball confederation held in Vietnam, said Cooray. He also said that the Federation has got all the blessings and support from the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports to conduct the event here. The opening ceremony on September 19 will be attended by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse as chief guest at Sugathadasa indoor stadium. President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation China's Jizhong Wei will be in Sri Lanka for the championship and will be the chief guest on the final day September 26. He will give away the awards.
