Death knell for jumbos at Yala

Piles of garbage lying along the Yodakandiya embankment has sounded the death knell to wildlife in the Yala National Park. A tusker feasting on the garbage.


The carcass of an elephant which had died after eating polythene and other waste dumped in the area allegedly by the Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha.

Abdul Cader refused bail, re-remanded

Any person violating or misappropriating the Samurdhi Society Development Funds comes within the ambit of Public Property Act, said Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena refusing an application for bail in respect of former UNP Minister and Parliamentarian A.R.M. Abdul Cader yesterday.

Army-LTTE meeting postponed
