Injured Dilshan has seven stitches inserted Sri Lanka cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan had seven stitches inserted into the webbing between his left index and middle finger after injuring it during the fifth and final one-day international against South Africa played at the SSC grounds on Tuesday. Dilshan attempted to hold onto a hot return catch from South African batsman Nicky Boje in the 48th over of the innings and suffered the injury. He was forced to retire from the field and Saman Jayantha completed his over. Sri Lanka team manager Ajith Jayasekera said that there was no danger of Dilshan missing the ICC Champions trophy tournament in England, but he may have to miss out on the two practice games against New Zealand on September 8 and MPCC XI on September 10. Both matches are scheduled to be played at Shenley. Sri Lanka who finished joint runner-up with India in the last ICC Champions trophy tournament held in Sri Lanka in 2002, begin their campaign for the 2004 title when they play Zimbabwe on September 17 at the Rose Bowl. England are their other opponents in Group D. |
