STF remembers fallen heroes

by Asanga Warnakulasuriya

Special Task Force (STF) officers who sacrificed their lives during a crucial time when Sri Lanka was fighting for its sovereignty and territorial integrity will be in our hearts forever, Inspector General of Police Indra de Silva said yesterday.

The 20th war heroes commemoration ceremony was held at the STF Training Camp in Katukurunda yesterday.

IGP de Silva speaking at the ceremony said that from the day when the STF was first assigned to safeguard the people of Sri Lanka from terrorist threats, 389 officers of various ranks sacrificed their lives in defending their countrymen.

STF Commandant DIG Nimal Lueke said that STF officers have always been dedicated in carrying out their duties and have shown great enthusiasm. Knowing the riskiness of life in battlefield and still willing to face is a unique characteristic of STF officers.
