New Jaffna Commander assumes office The New Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna Major General S.D. Tennakoon RSP ndc assumed duties yesterday morning at his office in Jaffna. The new Commander upon assumption of his duties was accorded a Guard of Honour by Sri Lanka Artillery Brigade troops. After lighting the oil lamp, a Pirith chanting ceremony was conducted at Jaffna Naga Vihara to invoke blessings on the new Commander. After Pirikara was offered to the Maha Sangha, the new Commander symbolically placed his signature on a document to signify his assumption of duties. He later had a joint discussion with all Jaffna-based General Officers Commanding in 51, 52, 53 & 55 Divisions, deployed in the peninsula. He is expected to address troops today. After joining the Sri Lanka Army on July 24, 1971 as an Officer Cadet, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Artillery Regiment in 1972. Major Gen. Tennakoon who served as General Officer Commanding, 22 Division in Trincomalee, 55 Division in Mirusuvil, and in a number of other senior appointments also functioned as the Military Spokesman in 1998 before he was appointed the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Military Intelligence. He also has followed several overseas courses including the Pakistan National Defence College, Fy-98US Expended Program, etc. |
