Diarrhoea attacks 176,000 B'deshis in flood-hit areas DHAKA, Wednesday (Xinhua) At least 176,000 people have been attacked by diarrhea in the flood-hit areas of Bangladesh since July 12 last. During the period, death toll from the disease rose to 81, The New Nation Wednesday quoted sources of the Health Directorate as saying. The scarcity of safe drinking water had appeared to be a burning problem in the flood-hit areas causing outbreak of diarrhea, dysentery and other waterborne diseases since mid July last. The government so far has supplied about 70,000 water purifying tablets and 11 million packets of oral saline to the flood- affected areas. Out of 4053 medical teams, 3,277 had been working in the flood- affected areas since July 12. |
