Former captain Vanessa wants to win the
World Cup

Former Sri Lankan Women's cricket captain Vanessa Bowen, is appointed as Manager to Sri Lanka's Indoor Cricket Women's squad which will participate in the Fifth World Cup in Sri Lanka at the Austasia International Indoor Cricket Stadium, Thalawatugoda from October 8 to 16.

Vanessa, who started her cricketing career in 1995 playing for Colts Women's cricket team was an outstanding player at her time and captained Sri Lanka women's team for some time. But the all round performer decided to switch her outdoor cricket career to indoor when she joined as captain to the Women's Indoor Cricket team for the World Cup in New Zealand in 2000.

However today with her experience as a player, she is prepared to serve the sport as Manager to the Women's Indoor Cricket World Cup team, which she says is a tough task "It's quite a competitive job, I would say, I'm sure it's not going to be easy. We hope to do well as a team in this World Cup and at least to come to the finals," said a determined Bowen, who is prepared to suck the best out from her team.

"Craig's support will be very vital for us to shape well for the big occasion, after his arrival all training schedules will be changed focused at the World Cup" said Bowen, who hopes to handover a team of fit lasses to their coach to concentrate on the game.

She said the team needs to improve a lot in their batting capabilities, while the fielding and bowling abilities which she finds up to the mark should be continued at the same par. She said, the team comprised mostly of the outdoor players, find it difficult to adjust to the net game.

"Unlike in the outdoor game, where you play at the ball early, you need to wait here for the ball to come and play lately to position the ball" Bowen shared her technical knowledge of the game.

Following her experience at the last world cup she said, "We were third in the last world cup, things have improved since then, lot of training has taken place, and the confidence levels are high, so we can aim at a higher position this time, especially the world cup is being held in Sri Lanka".

"Since we have home advantage, we hope to do well with the support of all involved in the development of the sport in Sri Lanka, I urge the fans to come and cheer us a bit to put our morals up, because after all this is a World Cup we are trying to win" requested the manager, who wants to finish her duty with the World Crown in hand.
