Gayan rides to glory at Gajaba Supercross

Schoolboy from Gateway International School Gayan Sandaruwan maintained his supremacy by winning four events at the Gajaba Supercross which concluded last Sudnay at the Saliyapura track organsied by the Sri Lanka Army. The meet was conducted by Sri Lanka Association for Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) as part of the national championships.

Sandaruwan who took a firm grip of the two-wheeler category at the Fox Hill Supercross at Diyatalawa competing agaisnt foreign competitors winning three events continued his superlative performances.

He was on a Honda CR 125 on which he competed in all events for 250 cc class, but he was a clear winner against bike of more power proving that he has all the talent and skills to outsmart any kind of opposition.

Meanwhile in the motor cars events saw many favourites win their respective class events. The biggest event in this category the super cars event Group A 3500 cc was evenly contested by the two top contenders for the championship Aravinda Premadasa from Caltex team and Dinesh Deheragoda from the UMLL group.

The first race for this class Aravinda Premadasa take the better of Deheragoda, but the stage was won by Deheragoda. Both were behind the wheels of Mitsubishi Evos. Though the winners were declared the awards were not presented for this event as there was a protest lodged by a competitor has to be scrutinised by holding an inquiry.

Upulwan Serasinghe drove his Mazda 323 to victory in Group N car event cars up to 1500 cc, but in race No. 2 Upulwan was beaten to second slot by Dilshard Hamdoom.

Yoga Perera drove his mini in style to grab victory in the Group A cars 1050 cc to 1400 while winning the Group N cars over 12 kgs to win a double for the day.

K. Parameshwaran, Hafiz Cader, Indu Samarakoon, Nihal Premasiri, and Shantha Suraweera were the others who got victories under their belts driving in different categories. (BP)
