Newton Seneviratne's death loss to entire progressive force - PM

The death of Newton Seneviratne (64) who a veteran journalist, author and politician is a loss not only to the field of journalism but also a loss of a human asset to the entire progressive force, stated Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse in a message of condolence yesterday.

He began as an activist of the Communist Party Youth organisation and represented the people of Gampaha during the period from 1967 to 1977. His dedication to the People's United Front since 1994 and service to the people ever since were memorable. He was a free lancer of the "Attha" news-paper since 1950 while being a Public Servant and later became the Editor of the "Attha" paper as a full timer," the message said.

The major part of his life was a task of service to the Progressive Camp. He contributed enormously to the "Attha" "Dinakara" and "Rawaya" Newspapers.

He was the first secretary of the Professional Journalists Association of Sri Lanka.

His loss in not only loss of a man, but a loss to the entire field of journalism, a personification of a valuable human being", added the Premier's message.
