Enjoining order on SLRFU by Ranga Chandrarathne Colombo District Judge S. M. S. Samarakoon on Tuesday issued an Enjoining Order restraining the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union from suspending the participation of the Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club in the Interclub Knockout Tournament scheduled for August 13, 2004. The Order is operative till August 24, 2004. In this case the plaintiffs including the President Chula Darmadasa,Vice President Wipula Darmadasa, Secretary Jehan Kanagarathne,Treasurer P.C.H Fernando and 6 others of the Central Committee of the Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club (CR&FC) have cited the President Mohan Balasuriya, Vice President Priyantha Ekanayaka, Secretary Isvan Omar, Treasurer Shantha Kuburupitiya and 16 others of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) as defendants. The plaintiff states that the 20th defendant Danushka Pushpakumara of Kandy Sports Club was nominated to play in a match against Havelock SC on August 13, 2004 without obtaining the permission from the plaintiff. The plaintiffs further stated that this player had confirmed to the requirments set out in the Constitution. However at Committee meeting of the SLRFU held on August 5 ,2004, the Committee took up the view that Danushka Pushpakumara's participation was a gross misconduct and suspended the CR&FC's participation in the Interclub Knockout Tournament scheduled for August 13, 2004. |
