President reconstitutes Hilton Board, Nihal Sri Ameresekera chairman

Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama on President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's direction has reconstituted the Hilton Hotel Board appointing PERC Chairman, Nihal Sri Ameresekera as the new Chairman.

The other Government Directors are V. Kanagasabapathy, Director General Public Enterprises, N. Warusavitharana, Director General State Accounts, Nihal Jayawardena, Senior State Counsel, Manik Nagahawatte, Chairman Bank of Ceylon and Mrs. Padma Maharaja.

It was Ameresekera, a chartered accountant who prosecuted in the fraud in the construction of the Hitlon Hotel to prevent monies being fraudulently claimed under State guarantees.

In 1996, on the President's intervention, a write off of US$ 210 million was made on the state guarantees. The CID is investigating into the role played by former Finance Minister K. N. Choksy and R. Paskaraligham, former Secretary Ministry of Finance and Advisor to former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in connection with this fraud on the Government.
