by Florence Wickramage The National Crafts Council has signed an agreement with the Association of Tour Operators to improve the marketing and training facilities of the crafts sector in Galle District. The agreement is a step towards efforts of the National Crafts Council to work in cooperation with donor organisations for the uplift of the crafts sector in Sri Lanka. The proposed centre is to be established on a site belonging to the Galle Municipal Council and will be implemented as a joint project of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, the Galle Municipal Council and the National Crafts Council. According to the agreement, the National Crafts Council will be the implementing agency. Financial support for the project will be borne by the Independent Tour Operators on a donation arranged by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board. The project is scheduled to be completed before December 2004. |
