A productivity week has been declared to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. In sequence to direction given by the Minister of Ports and Aviation Mangala Samaraweera instructing all concerned to refrain from spending large sums of money for anniversary functions it has been decided to commemorate the event on a small scale, but more meaningfully, states a Ministry of Ports and Aviation press release. The intention of scheming a productivity week is to promote initiative and awareness among port workers regarding the operational functions and other matters concerned. The Sri Lanka Port Authority had been established in 1979 amalgamating the three segments functioning in the Port, namely, the Port Commission, Port Cargo Corporation and Port Tally and Security Service. This is considered the first occasion that the Ports Authority will be commemorating an anniversary in such a simple manner when compared to the past 24 years, a Port official said. The Sri Lanka Ports Authority has also decided to select the best section in the Port that proved its productivity and to award valuable prizes to the workers in the section selected. The 25th anniversary is scheduled to be held on August 12 at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Mahapola Training Institute headed by the Minister of Ports and Aviation Mangala Samaraweera. |
