Lanka to host "ASOCIO" ICT summit

More than 600 delegates representing the ICT sectors and governments of over 23 countries will attend "ASOCIO ICT Summit and Exhibition 2004" in Colombo which will be held from November 30 to December 05.

The Summit will include workshops, conferences and exhibitions at two locations such as the BMICH and the Convention Center. This event, the ASOCIO ICT Summit and Exhibition, is one of the largest of its kind and Sri Lanka has been chosen as the venue for this year. A statement from ASOCIO said.

The ASOCIO ICT Exhibition will also be held concurrently with the ACOCIO ICT Summit and it will cover areas such as Enterprise Solutions, Web Services, Info Security/Disaster Recovery, Network Infrastructure and Services, Digital Imaging, Data Storage, Office Automation and Documentation. The exhibition will also focus on the key segments of growth within the ICT Industry such as governance, ICT enabled services and BPO, Technology for Apparel Sector, Societal Applications and Wireless Technology.

This will be one of the largest Summits since the Non-aligned summit in the 1970s and the entire event is being funded and organised by the local ICT industry.

The event is being coordinated by a consortium of Sri Lankan private sector ICT associations led by FITIS (Federation of Information Technology Industry Societies) with support from SLCVA (Sri Lanka Computer Vendors Association), SLASI (Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry), ACTOS (Association of Computer Training Organizations) and SEA (Software Exporters Association). This event is also supported by the government of Sri Lanka led by the ICT agency and Board of Investment of Sri Lanka.

ASOCIO is a regional ICT body inaugurated in Japan in 1984 with six member countries, has now grown to a nineteen-member body, further strengthened by five guest members.

ASOCIO members represent over 10,000 companies in Japan, Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, UK, USA, Canada, France and Spain.
