SITA lobbies to develop ICT industry

By Sudarshana Perera

System Integrated Technology Alliance (SITA) would soon make representation to the government to sort out the problems faced by local computer hardware and software vendors. The draft proposal by the SITA comes in the wake of the positive stand expressed by the government to look into the problems faced by the local ICT business community.

SITA is an organisation of software and hardware vendors formed to lobby for the development of the local ICT industry in the country.

According to a SITA spokesman ,the proposals would include to consider the Value Added Tax and other duty and surcharges.

Due to high taxes charged on the import of computer peripherals, the buying power of the low income and middle income earners has been affected and it has been an obstacle to promote ICT in rural areas to take computer to grassroots levels.

SITA works closely with all other ICT bodies to achieve a common vision of e-Srilanaka to gain a competitive advantage to Sri lanka.

"To become a competitive edge SITA believes, that any kind information plays major role in any type of business, organisation, government and non government institutions and therefore the management of information can boost performance anywhere, while knowledge and better implementation of ICT are becoming crucial to the industry" SITA said.

"As every one is aware there are many companies to deal in ICT in Sri lanka. Unfortunately we are yet to get optimum usage of ICT as there are so many obstacles.

SITA brings about unity and brotherhood among computer and computer related companies and represents the trade as a professional body when dealing with customs and other Government Departments", SITA sources said.
