Laws soon to deal with pyramid scheme by Ramani Kangaraarachchi Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama has already taken the draft legislation to the Cabinet with regard to the Pyramid scheme. He warned the public not to get involved in fantasy schemes such as the Pyramid scheme and to follow the instructions of the Central Bank seriously. He was addressing the media at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday. He said that people who do not want to work hard but want quick money get involved in this type of schemes and the country has lost $30 million already while many people have got into trouble because of the Pyramid Scheme. Answering a question raised by a journalist about attractive advertisements published by the Pyramid Scheme the Minister said that the government cannot stop people advertising about the scheme but immediate action would be taken to stop them joining this scheme. He also said that some credit card holders who are involved in the Pyramid Scheme have got other people to use their credit cards in order to get them also involved in it and action will be taken to stop using credit cards other than its holders. Replying another question on printing new Rs. 1,000 notes, Dr. Amunugama said that he has not signed any Rs. 1,000 notes so far as reported by certain media establishments. He said that it may be a misinterpretation and explained as the Finance Minister his signature has been sent to the Central Bank to be used whenever required. "It does not happen without my knowledge,he said. He said that only Rs. 50 notes have been printed under his signature in place of the discarded notes that had been destroyed.
