4th Asian Youth Netball C'ships: 

Late rally helps Lanka beat Thailand 50-46

Sri Lanka junior netballers playing in their second game of the 4th Asian Youth Netball Championship against Thailand put up with a superlative performance to win 50 points to 46 at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday.

Thais got off to a flying start to take a firm lead in the first quarter 13 points to 06. In the second quarter Lankans caught up collecting 13 points while Thais could manage only 12 points. This closed the gap to 25-19.

The first two sessions saw Sri Lanka's ace shooter and skipper's absence was felt very seriously, and the officials decided to bring her back to the third quarter. Her inclusion brought in results when she kept on collecting points and managed get further close to their rival reducing the lead to only four points. 36-32.

The fourth quarter saw the Lankans put their act together in a bid to stay on top of the table.

Lankan lasses for the first time got ahead the scoreboard reading 40-37.

They never gave the opportunity for their opponents to get past them and went further and further ahead with Gishanthi doing bulk of the scoring.

On their way to victory the Lankans made a total of 18 points in this session against Thais 14 points. The final score reading 50 points to 46 in favour of Sri Lanka.

Maldives in comfortable win

The second game of the day ended in favour of Maldives.

They defeated India comfortably 50 points to 24 points.
