RCI to grow global vacation market in Lanka

Recognising the tremendous potential that exists in Sri Lanka and the opportunity for hotels to boost their revenue through innovative products, Hotel Dynamics, an RCI Company and a subsidiary of the Cendant Corporation, outlined a range of solutions for the hotel industry in Sri Lanka.

Promoting Vacation Exchanges for RCI’s three million members worldwide

A US-based company that specializes in the design, evaluation, implementation and management of programs for the Hospitality industry, Hotel Dynamics is planning to launch tailor-made marketing and loyalty programs for large and boutique hotels in the country.

The resultant benefit for hotels is higher occupancy, higher revenue and increased profits, even during low demand periods. This would enable Sri Lanka to be marketed among RCI three million members worldwide.

The leading products offered by Hotel Dynamics include innovative hotel membership clubs that either enhance existing revenue or create new income through targeted business acquisitions driven by tailored programs; proprietary web-based database marketing and sales software and servicing designed to enable desktop execution and analysis of segmented marketing offers.

These programs can be used together or individually, to enhance revenue and maximise an organisation's operational intelligence.

RCI, a global provider of leisure travel services and the world leader in Vacation Exchange, unveiled plans to leverage the vast tourism potential in Sri Lanka to promote Vacation Exchanges for its three million members worldwide and increase Sri Lanka's visibility on the global destinations map.

"Sri Lanka, with its scenic beauty and great food and shopping, is a popular tourist destination and we see an increasing demand for resorts in Sri Lanka from our members," said Raju Shahani, President and General Manager, RCI Asia, China and India.

"We are upbeat about the business opportunities here and will initially focus our efforts on getting more resorts in Sri Lanka to affiliate with RCI which will immediately open their doors to our global network of members." RCI currently has one affiliated resort in (OASIS) in Hambantota.

Vacation Ownership and Hospitality have overlapped for years. Vacation Ownership (or Timeshare) essentially means owning a week annually at a resort. RCI has affiliations with a number of such resorts, thus forming an exchange network. Owners at these resorts become RCI members.

Using RCI's global exchange network, expertise and knowledge, RCI members can choose the right vacation from an unparalleled choice of beautiful resorts across the world and RCI facilitates the exchange of the week they own with resorts within the network.

RCI has over 3,700 resorts in 100 countries and over three million member families living across 200 countries.

RCI's advantage in the size of its resort portfolio and overall membership logically produce a significant number of exchanges. RCI sends its members on vacation almost twice as much as its nearest competitor.

With plans to now affiliate more resorts in Sri Lanka, RCI members will have the opportunity to exchange their timeshare units for a vacation in Sri Lanka, thereby boosting high-spending inbound traffic into the country.

Worldwide, the Vacation Ownership industry is growing at an average of 14% as against the 6% growth of the tourism industry. According to research by Ragatz Associates, the leading market research company in the Vacation Ownership industry, there are approximately 6.7 million Timeshare owners and 5400 timeshare resorts worldwide today.

RCI believes that its expansion efforts in Sri Lanka will benefit several audiences - greater opportunity for developers to attract international travellers as a result of the RCI affiliation; an opportunity for RCI members to experience and enjoy more destinations within Sri Lanka and the resulting impact on the overall tourism industry in the island country.

RCI is a global provider of leisure travel services to businesses and consumers, with market leadership positions in vacation property exchange, rental and resort management.

As a growth partner to its business clients, RCI leverages core competencies in networks, technology, brand and product development and world-class customer service to deliver superior vacation experiences for travellers anywhere in the world.
