Bourse registers positive gains

The Colombo Bourse continued its momentum in the backdrop of the political stability that was further strengthened with the UPFA emerging victorious at the PC polls.

The positive marker recorded gains with the All Share Price Index jumping to 1,379.29 points from 1,368.71 points on Friday. The Milanka Price Index increased to 2,094.71 points from 2,074.11 points.

The turnover was up at Rs 271,536,643. According to stock brokers, the day's significant transaction was the parcel of Rs 1.9 million shares of Distilleries changing hands at attractive prices. The retail segment has also been active and fundamentals stocks such as Caltex and Hemas gaining investor attention.

The day's heavily traded stocks were Distilleries, Colombo Land, Ceylinco Ins, Caltex and Seylan Bank.

Domestic purchases were Rs 3,740 million and foreign purchases Rs 199 million. Ferntea Ltd, Abans, Ceylinco Housing, Ceylinco Ins and Walk and Greig were the top five gainers.

Hayleys Ltd announced a 1 for 10 Rights Issue and Dipped Products a 1 for 5 Bonus Issue yesterday.
