Kandy SC rout Havelocks The defending champions Kandy Sports Club produced a superb second half rally to beat Havelocks SC by 46 points to 14 points in their Caltex inter club 'A' division league rugby tournament second round match played at Havelock Park yesterday. Kandy SC collected their points from four goals, three tries and one penalty having led 13-8 at half time. The Havies responded with one try and three penalties. This was a tremendous effort by the Kandy outfit who were restricted to just two tries during the first half. Havelocks SC put up a gallant performance to match their opponents and also succeeded in scoring a try. However Kandy SC cut loose in the second half and completely dominated the game while enjoying a major amount of possession in the scrums and in the line outs. Their forwards really outclassed the home side with a powerful display and the three quarters were equally brilliant with their sweeping moves. Number eight Laga, centre Pradeep Liyanage, winger Sanjeewa Jayasinghe, second row forward Asoka Jayasena, fly half Mama Duruvi and winger Sameera Silva had an outstanding game for Kandy SC while number eight R. Ganapathy excelled for Havelocks SC. Dilroy Fernando refereed. (C.D) |
