Glorious victory for UPFA - S. Subairdeen

"The results of the election for the six provincial councils held on Saturday clearly demonstrates not only the glorious victory for the UPFA, but also once again it confirms and affirms the mandate given by the people for the UPFA at the last General Election and subsequently held North-Western Provincial Council election last April.

"What is admirable is the definite and the sound verdict of the people in favor of the UPFA in spite of the fact that a certain degree of uncertainties prevail in maintaining a working majority in the Parliament for the UPFA; and the numerous, scurrilous criticism launched against the Government by the opposition.

What is noticeable is that the voters have focused special attention to the national issues rather than the parochial regional issues, confining to their provinces.

It is striking to note that the UPFA has scored a majority of 890,000 votes whereby the voters have quite clearly declared their preferences for the Alliance.

It is therefore well evident that the voters have approved the policies and programs of the Alliance and fully supported the Government. The gladsome luminescence of the sun cannot be taken away even if the whole of concourse of the humanity shield it from shedding its light on the universe. Such an analogy is comparable to the decisive victory of the United People's Freedom Alliance at these elections.

In our analysis, we are of the view that this verdict of the people is a rejection of the neo liberal economic policies mainly benefiting the urban population, base on the market-oriented economic activities which is disguised in the on going globalization program of the western world", states S. Subairdeen, Leader - Ashraff Congress in a press release.
