The President urged people to shed all differences and dedicate themselves to the sublime cause of the Government's "Country Forward" programme. "This victory goes beyond the mere confirmation of the United People's Freedom Alliance victory won at the General Election of April 02, 2004", it said. "Taken with victory of the North Western Provincial Council Election of April 24, in the aftermath of the General Election, now the Freedom Alliance wields power in all the seven provinces. On the basis of Electoral Divisions, the Freedom Alliance has won 123 seats. The results of the recent elections clearly prove that whatever the balance of power in Parliament under the distorted election system, the people's overwhelming Mandate is in fact for the United People's Freedom Alliance." The President urged all political parties represented in Parliament to understand this reality of the People's Mandate which clearly shows the people's choice of the policy and programme acknowledged by them. "In the circumstances, the need of the hour is to shed all differences and dedicate ourselves to revive the country. I greatly appreciate the confidence the people reposed in us and pledge to uphold it untarnished at all times. Let us dedicate ourselves to the sublime policy of "Country Forward". Al together let the country march forward." it stated. Let us march forward in unity, as one people, one nation the President's message of thanks concludes. |
