The Sri Lanka English Language Teachers Association, SLELTA, has announced that it has organized a series of presentations on topics of academic interest for teachers, other personnel involved in English language teaching and members of the public interested in issues related to English. These presentations are held at the auditorium of the British Council in Colombo, and take place usually on a monthly basis. In July however there will be two presentations, one on 'Academic Discourse' by Dr. Dushyanthie Mendis of the Department of English, University of Colombo which will be held on July 13, 5.30 pm at the British Council. The second presentation scheduled for July will concern an international review of Language Policy and Practice. The speaker is Anna Searle, Deputy Director of the British Council. This lecture will be held on July 20 at 5.30 pm. Other presentations due to be held include one by Richard Lunt of the British Council on Management in English Language Teaching, and a presentation on Benchmarks for University English by Professor Ryhana Raheem of the Open University of Sri Lanka. These will be in August and September respectively. These presentations are part of SLELTA's programme of activities which also includes workshops for teachers at all levels in regions throughout the island. In October, SLELTA will be hosting its Third International Conference on English Language Teaching in Colombo. |
