Himbutana group correspondent A special feature at the annual prize giving day function of the Borella Saddatissa Dhamma School held recently was the Principal of the institution himself meeting all the expenditure connected with the event and making several other donations too. Ven. Pitiduwa Dhammika Thera, the head of the school spent close upon a hundred thousand rupees out of his own funds to also provide 150 spectacles to those who could not afford to buy eye glasses. In addition, teachers' uniforms to those engaged in teaching in the school were also supplied by him. Commenting on the philanthropic gesture, Ven. Arama Dhammaloka Thera who made the keynote address at the function attended by a large crowd of parents, students, well-wishers, the Mayor of Colombo, Prasanna Gunawardena and the Borella police officials said that the selfless act of Ven. Dhammika Thera performed in the true spirit of Buddhism was a clear testimony to his large heartedness, a worthy example fit to be emulated by those who have the means to do so. The function also marked the handing of several items of used furniture from the Colombo Municipality to the Dhamma School by Mayor of Colombo, Prasanna Gunawardena. |
