Tea Smallholders to get better deal

by Sanjaya Asela Maturata

The new Chairman of the Tea Small Holdings Authority Tikiri Kobbekaduwa has initiated action to establish a special unit of the Authority at its Kandy Regional Office, Gannoruwa Road, Peradeniya, to find expeditious solutions to the problems of more than 20,000 tea smallholders scattered over Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts. The office will be kept open on Saturdays.

This will minimise the hardship undergone by Tea Smallholders who had to travel to Colombo Head Office to solve their problems.

According to Kobbekaduwa, action has been taken to investigate corruption and irregularities that have taken place during the previous regime.

"Provision of a better service to the tea smallholders to uplift their social and economic status and elimination of waste and corruption are my aims", he said.
