Karaka Sangha Sabha meets to elect new Mahanayake Thera tomorrow

The Karaka Sangha Sabha of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya will meet at 3.00 p.m. on June 20 at the Mangala Uposatharamaya of the Malwathu Maha Viharaya, Kandy to elect a new Mahanayake Thera.

The new Mahanayake Thera will be the 26th of Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter.

The Karaka Sangha Sabha now has only 17 members out of a total membership of 20.

Sangha Sabha sources said they hoped to go in for a unanimous choice this time without having an election. Ridie Viharadhipathi Venerable Mahopadyaya Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Anunayka is most likely to be the unanimous choice for the post of Mahanayaka Thera.
