Layton Cup Boxing Championships : Slimline and Army dominate day two Sri Lanka Army BC and Slimline BC dominated the second day of the Layton Cup boxing meet organised by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and continued at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Kotahena yesterday. In the light welter weight under-64 category class bout quarterfinals M. Divaratne had the better of his teammate K. A. Perera on points 15-2 with the referee deciding to stop the contest during round two. In the middle weight under-75 kg category class bout quarterfinals P. R. Fernando also from Sri Lanka Army beat W. Granville of Sri Lanka Prisons BC on points 14-2 with the referee deciding to stop the contest in round one. In the same weight category R. T. Jayatilleke of Sri Lanka Army BC outclassed R. Hettiarachchi of Slimline BC 26-16. In addition N. Samarakoon also from Sri Lanka Army BC defeated his teammate P. Tennekoon on points 22-18. Slimline BC also made their presence felt with S. I. Kumara overcoming S. Ekanayake of Sri Lanka Air Force BC with the referee deciding to stop the contest in round one. S. P. Abeyratne also from Slimline BC overcame his quarterfinal clash with a walk over from P. K. Kumara of Sri Lanka Army BC. In the middle weight under 75 kg category class bout quarterfinals A. Kumara of Sri Lanka Police BC beat T. Michael of Sri Lanka Air Force BC on points 18-5. In the same weight category W. Avantha of Sri Lanka Navy BC beat L. Suwaris of Sri Lanka Air Force BC with the referee deciding to stop the contest in round two following a headblow. In the super heavy weight under 91 kg category class quarter finals M. Hanza of Sri Lanka Air Force BC received a walk over from P. D. Jagathpriya of Sri Lanka Prisons BC. In addition C. Herath of Sri Lanka Police BC beat his teammate W. Samantha with the latter retiring during round two. N. Udesh from Carey BC also won his quarterfinal bout with his opponent C. Viharagedera being disqualified in round three. In the same weight category K. Sugathadasa of Unichella put up a fine performance to outscore J. I. Niriella of Seevali BC on points 20-0 with the referee deciding to stop the contest during round two. The semi finals of all eleven weight categories will be worked off today commencing at 5.30 p.m. (C.D) |
