TTSC VB Championships on June 19 by Bernard Perera The Annual Travel Trade Volleyball Championship organised by TTSC will be held on June 19 at Hotel Dolphin, Wennappuwa commencing 8.30 a.m. This year the championship has attracted the largest number of participants numbering 38 teams. Last year 30 teams competed. The 38 teams have been divided in to twelve groups with Group B and Group J with four teams while the other six groups contain three teams. The winners of each group qualify for the cup and plate championship while the runners-up will play for the bowl. The winner will be decided on best of three sets. The matches will be played on six courts at Dolphin Hotel which hosts the championship which is sponsored for the third successive year by Serendib Leisure Management. Last year Club Palm Garden won the championship cup beating Taj Exotica Bentota, while the plate was won by Taj Samudra and the Bowl by Golden Sun. These details were disclosed at a press briefing held at Automobile Association Boardroom in the presence of Ronald Perera (Chairman Organising Committee, Director Serendib Leisure) J. Anandaraj Director Operations (Serendib Leisure), Keethi Jayaweera (President TTSC) and Tyrone Perera (Event Co-ordinator TTSC). There will be special awards for Best setter, Best spiker and most outstanding players in all three championships. A total of 75 (43 league and 23 k/o) matches are to be worked on this day according to organisers. |
