Meeting on recruitment of university staff A meeting is scheduled to be held with the Secretary to the Treasury and the Secretary to the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission, to finalise arrangements for recruitment of essential academic and technical staff of Universities, today. In April this year, the Treasury lifted the existing embargo for recruitment. Now that the cadre requirements per University are being identified, the Treasury will be requested to release the allocated funds. A meeting with all the Deans of all universities is also scheduled to be held soon to address the grievances of each faculty. ###### Late President Premadasa's 80th birth anniversary A commemoration ceremony to mark the 80th birth anniversary of President Ranasinghe Premadasa will be held on June 23 at 4.30 pm at the Elphinstone Theatre. Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama will be the chief guest while UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya will be the guest of honour. Winners of the islandwide essay competition organised by the Premadasa Centre to mark the 80th anniversary will be awarded prizes and certificates. Schools of the winning candidates will be awarded special prizes. The winning essays in the three languages in the schoolchildren category will be read out by the winners. |
